DEDICATED CHILDREN’S DENTIST MURPHY

Get to Know Dr. JoJo

Murphy childrens dentist Doctor Josephine Yip

Dr. Josephine Yip (or “Dr. JoJo” as her little patients endearingly call her) is a Murphy children's dentist who was born in Hong Kong and grew up in Dallas. She strongly believes that each child is unique and never utilizes a one-size-fits-all approach, striving to create positive early dental experiences that are essential for a lifetime of good oral health.

Dr. JoJo deeply enjoys meeting local families and getting to know them beyond their dental needs. Because she lives in the same city as our practice, she gets to see and meet her kids' classmates, and they feel like family and friends to her more than patients! She says it's especially rewarding when she’s able to show children (and parents!) that going to the dentist can be fun and educational rather than stressful. Last but not least, this job allows her to act as silly as she wants!

Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Dr. JoJo’s love for dentistry started when she volunteered in a global medical mission organization during her college years. She was astonished to see how dentistry could impact lives and felt fulfilled when building relationships with the people she served.

Dr. JoJo was innately drawn to dentistry because it requires a combination of problem-solving and creative skill to navigate a wide variety of challenges. Even better, in pediatric dentistry, it allows her to be playful while setting kids on a path that will serve them throughout their lifetime.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. JoJo started as a dental assistant back in 2003 before deciding to pursue a career as a dentist. She eventually graduated magna cum laude from the University of Texas at Dallas and went on to receive her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at Case Western Reserve University.

Afterward, Dr. JoJo moved back to Dallas to be with family. As she began to practice, she discovered her passion for treating children, leading her to spend the last decade focusing on taking care of children and teens.

Today, she is a member of the American Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and the American Orthodontic Society. With thousands of educational training hours in all aspects of clinical dentistry and airway-centric orthodontics under her belt, she is able to understand all the developmental stages of children and provide an integrated approach to suit their specific needs.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Dr. JoJo’s husband is also in the dental field, and they have two boys who are supercharged with energy that keep them on their toes! They enjoy traveling and hiking together as a family (although the boys would have no problem playing video games all day). They are currently on a mission to collect Junior Ranger badges from various national parks!

Dr. JoJo considers herself to be an adventurous person and is very open to new things, such as trying her hand at scuba diving and flying a plane. She’s also someone who appreciates and seeks out different cuisines, especially good seafood. Her quiet hobbies include playing the violin, doing night sky photography, and hiking—a stroll through the woods revitalizes her like nothing else!
